Written by Willy, in response to our call for comments from Naivasha residents.

I lived in Naivasha between 1994 and ‘96, between 2001 and ‘02 and again between March & May, 2008.
In Naivasha, you can “touch loneliness, poverty” and everything in between … Add all that to the level of illiteracy (especially amongst the young!) and [...]

Preliminary findings from the Kriegler Commission of Inquiry indicate that last year’s General Election failed due to incompetence by the Electoral Commission of Kenya and not because of a diabolical plot to rig the elections.
Both President Mwai Kibaki and Prime Minister Raila Odinga were shortchanged in the vote tally.
From evidence adduced before the Commission, its [...]

The raving antics of Danson Mungatana provided an amusing side show in the past but by purporting to “report” Prime Minister Raila Odinga to President Mwai Kibaki, the Garsen MP is certainly over-reaching himself.
Coast people are openly expressing widespread disgust concerning Mungatana’s latest tantrums. His utterances are made worse by the fact that he is [...]

Zimbabwe’s path to a grand coalition seems to be following a carefully choreographed script perfected in Kenya a few months ago.
The Movement of Democratic Change of main opposition leader Morgan Tsvangirai won the Speaker’s seat inspite of intimidation by the government of President Robert Mugabe. In Kenya, the opposition Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) took the [...]

Kenyans are helpless against increases in food and energy prices caused by rising demand worldwide, supply disturbances and climate change.
With Kenya’s liberalized economy, the government has little leeway in effecting price controls on traders already suffering razor-thin margins. Meanwhile, the Meteorological Department has warned of diminished rains in coming months, raising the prospects of more [...]

The latest war between Georgia and Russia is the latest episode of tragic relations spanning two hundred years. Georgia, because of its small size but strategic position, finds itself a target of the great powers.
Throughout its history, Georgia has changed hands between the Greeks, Arabs, Turkey, Iran and Russia. Lately, the United States and Western [...]

The unravelling saga of the vampire rapist has cemented Naivasha’s reputation as the sex crimes capital of Kenya.
Sociologists have a lot to say about the prevalence of rape, incest, child abuse and other related crimes in Naivasha. There has been a huge rise in population thanks to the booming flower industry around Lake Naivasha. Unfortunately, [...]

Motoring columnist, Gavin Bennet, once described Kenyan number plates as resembling, “pieces of battle field shrapnel.” Evidence collected from the streets of Nairobi shows that the analogy was quite correct.
Kenyan motorists have decried the poor standards of licence plates issued by the Kenya Revenue Authority. “It doesn’t make sense to spend millions of shillings on [...]

The recent crisis in Kenya, a key ally of the United States, almost caused the disintegration of the country. Tension remains and there’s a real possibility of the country joining the ranks of failed states.
Failed states are ideal breeding grounds for terrorists and drug traffickers, and the US, has been mulling over how to deal [...]

Kenyan Prime Minister, Raila Odinga, has demanded the release of youths arrested for ethnic and political clashes that erupted following disputed elections in December 2007.
Raila has also called for the prosecution of Kenyan police officers over the deaths of hundreds of supporters of his Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) during the violence.
ODM is accusing the Kenyan [...]
